My first visit at The Duke's Head was a pleasant one from start to finish. The staff were warm and welcoming, we didn't have a booking for Sunday lunch but they accommodated us (although next time I would book as it did get busy). The food was delicious and portions were ample, with a variety of seasonal vegetables. Our only criticism would be the gravy was watery, we prefer gravy thick.
Normally very good. But not today. I wanted deep fried brie. They had none but suggested another cheese starter as similar. No it wasn't. It was a shared platter with bread and hot cheese.Main course batter was stone cold. Sent it back. New meal came on a cold plate. Everything was cold by the time I was half way through it because of the cold plate. I touched the plates on either side of me. Different meals on different plates but all cold plates. I did discreetly tell the girl. But she didn't seem bothered But to be fair. Normally it's good. Just not today
Large gastro pub with plenty of parking. Interior is smart and tables reasonably well spaced. Good menu choice, including roasts on a Sunday. Staff were friendly, though pretty busy when we went (which was a Sunday lunchtime). Children seemed very welcome.Food was hot and we didn't have to wait too long for it. Desert options were good too. Only slight negative was the coffee which didn't really live up to expectations. Otherwise would recommend. Booking sensible at a weekend I'd suggest.
Lovely pub, but food service not great. There were eleven of us for lunch. They were not busy, but it took nearly three hours. Waited ages for the food, soup was barely warm when it arrived. The chicken, bacon and avocado salad was swimming in olive oil, I had to send it back! Other meals were cold, but by the time it arrived, but we were so hungry that we just ate it. Pricey considering the service. Shame as the staff are nice and setting beautiful!
Went for lunch with my 2 sister's this afternoon and I was very pleased from start to finish.Very clean & beautifully set out,the staff were very friendly & the food was absolutely delicious. Will certainly be returning 5+
